About Us

What we do

We grant scholarships to high school graduates of Mater Dei High School in Breese, IL and Collinsville High School in Collinsville, IL.

Why we do it

The Ken Horstmann Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 to honor the memory of a man that strongly believed in the power of higher education. Ken began his own college education in 1968, but had to put his degree on hold due to the financial responsibilities of marriage and fatherhood. He later attended classes part-time while working and raising a family and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1983, 15 years after attending his first college class.

Ken was determined that the education of his two children would take a much simpler path than his own. He consistently stressed the importance of academic performance and promised to fund the education of his children at a college of their choice. Ken and his wife Sandy both worked hard and made necessary sacrifices to fulfill this promise. Both of his children received undergraduate degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and proceeded to earn masters degrees in business.
